What does the remainder of 2010 hold for the financial markets? What will be the impact of pending financial reform? How can businesses best position themselves for the near and long term?

BB&T Chairman and CEO Kelly S. King and Womble Carlyle’s Financial Institutions Team asked those questions. King shared his outlook on the challenges in today's financial markets and offered candid "in the trenches" insights on leadership at Womble Carlyle’s Thought Leader Speaker Series. The event took place Wednesday, June 30 from 5-8 p.m. at Womble Carlyle’s Atlanta office.

“Inviting Kelly King to participate in the Thought Leader Speakers Series was a natural fit, as Kelly is recognized as one of America’s top business leaders and serves at the helm of BB&T, one of the country’s most outstanding financial services companies,” said Steve Dunlevie, leader of Womble Carlyle’s Financial Institutions Team. In addition to King’s leadership role at BB&T, the 10th largest U.S. financial services holding company with $163.7 billion in assets, he is also a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.

Womble Carlyle has a long-standing focus on the financial services industry. Led by Chris Leon, Womble Carlyle’s team of nearly 50 Capital Markets attorneys counsels more than 250 financial services clients in corporate finance, real estate finance, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory compliance, public finance, and loan workouts and distressed debt matters. The team’s clients range from some of the world’s largest financial institutions to small community banks.

“We want to give our clients and prospective clients more than just outstanding legal service. We want to provide high-level business information, delivered by industry leaders, and that is what the Thought Leader Speaker Series is all about,” said Womble Carlyle attorney John F. Sandy Smith, who created the Thought Leader Speaker Series concept.

The Thought Leader Speaker Series began last year and has included two sessions with Tom Cunningham, director of Research for the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta. The next event is scheduled for October.
