TYSONS CORNER, VA.—Womble Carlyle is the 2011 winner of the Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year Award, presented by the Northern Virginia Pro Bono Law Center.
The firm was honored primarily because of Project Thrive, a program in which attorneys help small business owners in Northern Virginia who have limited economic means address the legal challenges involved in setting up a new business. Through this program, Womble Carlyle provides eligible entrepreneurs and business owners with advice and resources, free of charge, to overcome legal roadblocks and to resolve business problems. Earlier this year, Project Thrive was spotlighted in an article in the Washington Business Journal.
Womble Carlyle attorneys Lesley Whitcomb Fierst, Sanjay Beri, Daniel Espensen, Jeff Cohen, Isabel De Obaldia and Gabi Witt and administrative assistant Alex Rugh all contributed to the Project Thrive program.
The award will be presented at the Fairfax Bar Association State of the Judiciary Luncheon on December 8 in Fairfax, Va. Beri and Espensen will accept the award on behalf of the firm.
