ATLANTA—Womble Carlyle attorney Jack Williams has been named the President of the Litigation Counsel of America. Williams, a litigator in Womble Carlyle’s Atlanta office, will serve a one-year term as LCA President beginning December 31st.
“I am honored to be asked to serve such an outstanding organization as the Litigation Counsel of America,” Williams, an LCA Charter Fellow, said. “One of my primary goals is to build LCA’s membership by seeking out the country’s most talented and accomplished litigators and trial lawyers. The LCA was established for the purposes of recognizing excellence in advocacy and highlighting the fact that outstanding advocates are both male and female, come from all racial and ethnic backgrounds, and span the spectrum of ideological and political beliefs and perspectives.”
The Litigation Counsel of America is a trial lawyer honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. Fellowship in the LCA is highly selective and by invitation only. The number of Fellowships has been kept at an exclusive limit by design, allowing qualifications, diversity and inclusion to align effectively, with recognition of excellence in litigation across all segments of the bar. Fellows are generally at the partner or shareholder level, or are independent practitioners with recognized experience and accomplishment. In addition, the LCA is dedicated to promoting superior advocacy, professionalism and ethical standards among its Fellows. Womble Carlyle attorneys Brent Clinkscale, John Parker Sweeney and Jon Fligg also are LCA Fellows.
Womble Carlyle will be serving as the exclusive premier sponsor of the annual Litigation Counsel of America Diversity Summit, to be held Nov. 12th at the Four Seasons Hotel in Atlanta. Diversity is highly valued at Womble Carlyle, as evidenced by the fact that the firm recently won the 2009 DRI Law Firm Diversity Award, given annually to one law firm in the entire nation.
“The Litigation Counsel of America is truly honored to have Jack Williams serve as President of the society for 2009-2010,” said G. Steven Henry, Executive Director and General Counsel of the LCA. “Jack brings with him a vision and direction for the society that we look very forward to implementing. His presentation last week to the LCA Fellowship at the 2009 Fall Conference and Induction of Fellows in Charleston, South Carolina was captivating in its goal-oriented tone and reflection of our purpose and mission. Jack's life experiences in both the NFL and in the profession of law have given him a unique perspective on how we can best continue our methodology for membership inclusion at the highest talent level within law and how we can impact the administration of justice and the respective state and province bars represented in the LCA in a positive manner by remaining resolute in carrying out our mission.
“In each of our meetings in preparation for his taking the reins of the LCA, Jack has consistently maintained a focus on improving the profession and elevating the roles of our Fellows for that purpose.” Henry added, “It is also important for any person in leadership of a society whose membership represents practice at the highest level to have the support of his or her firm and its members. Womble Carlyle has already demonstrated that Jack's presidency will be given support and assistance throughout his tenure, which should enable his agenda greatly.”
