RALEIGH—Womble Carlyle attorney Jackie Terry Hughes has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors for the N.C. Center for Women in Public Service, a nonpartisan, non-profit, statewide organization that prepares women to seek and serve in elected and appointed positions.
Women make up 51 percent of the state's population, but are still underrepresented in many positions of political leadership throughout the state. The N.C. Center for Women in Public Service (NCCWPS) seeks to increase those numbers.
The N.C. Center for Women in Public Service offers seminars, workshops and other professional development training for women interested in elected or appointed office. Founded in 2003, NCCWPS is based in Raleigh. Hughes has worked with the NCCWPS since its inception, and has served on the NCCWPS Board of Directors since January 2008.
“I believe a woman’s contribution to the political process is vital to the effective governance of the people of North Carolina. NCCWPS provides the necessary tools that women from all backgrounds can utilize, to engage in public service and strive for political leadership,” Hughes said.
Hughes is a member of Womble Carlyle's Products Liability Litigation team, focusing primarily on pharmaceutical defense litigation. She practices in the firm’s Raleigh office.
