Our Capabilities
Capital Markets—Womble Carlyle provides the experienced, skilled counsel businesses need to navigate the high-stakes arena of capital markets. The attorneys on our team have proven their merits over a wide range of matters on behalf of financial institutions, institutional investors and other corporate clients. We understand the needs of business leaders and view our role as that of a facilitator to help businesses achieve their goals.
Our Capital Markets team also brings plenty of real business experience to go along with our legal experience. Several members of the team have worked as executives for banks and mortgage companies, in addition to their work as attorneys.
Construction Law—Womble Carlyle’s construction law practice is composed of lawyers who understand the construction industry. We help our clients negotiate design and construction contracts, and assist them in managing the risks inherent in the construction process. We bring a keen understanding of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) techniques to client issues. Our lawyers are accomplished negotiators who have successfully resolved complex and contentious matters on behalf of clients. We employ common sense and practical solutions to get difficult and potentially costly disputes put to rest. Able to quickly focus on key issues, we address these issues through negotiation and mediation and, if necessary, arbitration or litigation.
Corporate and Securities—Transactions provide companies with tremendous potential to grow. But they also present hazards and challenges – even for the most savvy business leader. At the same time, the marketplace is becoming increasingly global. Maneuvering this international arena requires a growing level of experience.
The right law firm can help a company maximize the benefits and minimize the risks of financial transactions. Our Corporate & Securities attorneys bring decades of experience and a proven track record of success to all areas of business transactions, including: Venture Capital and Private Equity; Emerging Businesses; Strategic Partnering; Public Securities; Mergers and Acquisitions; and Investment Funds.
Business Litigation—For more than 130 years, business litigation has been a bedrock practice at Womble Carlyle.
Our attorneys have represented clients in courtrooms and before juries in state and federal courts all across the country, including the United States Supreme Court. In addition, we have business litigation experience in a variety of international venues. Our team includes attorneys on both Chambers USA’s list of America’s Leading Business Lawyers as well as The Best Lawyers in America listing.
The firm’s Business Litigation practice is supported by the unmatched resources of Case Management Facility, which helps clients prevail in mass tort litigation efforts. The CMF organizes, tracks, searches and synthesizes trial documents into information attorneys can use. The state-of-the-art technology is backed by a staff that includes experienced trial lawyers and paralegals who understand large-scale litigation and what litigators need to win cases. The CMF saves attorneys time, prevents duplication of efforts and provides legal teams with the best possible information in a timely manner.
Labor and Employment—Womble Carlyle’s Labor and Employment lawyers have a hard-earned reputation for successfully combating plaintiffs’ lawyers, including at trial and in multi-jurisdictional, multi-plaintiff settings. Our team of attorneys and other professionals have strong experience in the application of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Fair Housing Act (including the disability provisions of the Fair Housing Act Amendments). We have a track record of successfully addressing complaints leveled by the Department of Justice, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, other state and local agencies, "public interest" groups, and plaintiffs and their attorneys on issues ranging from claims of discrimination or violation in design and operational practices to litigation and other dispute resolution procedures. We also have valuable experience in all areas of labor and employment law, including defense of employment discrimination claims, wage and hour law suits and OSHA violations. Our attorneys are experienced in assessing and counseling potential future problems and in training your professionals to identify and avoid these issues going forward.
Tax—Members of our team have experience in many different federal, state and local tax matters, including general tax planning, as well as transaction specific planning and structuring.
We also have experience in counseling and litigation in matters involving income tax deficiencies and sales, property and intangibles tax assessments. We also have substantial experience in the incorporation and qualification of tax-exempt corporations, including colleges and universities; hospitals; foundations; and arts organizations.
Environmental Law—Real estate developments must pass a myriad of environmental regulatory steps. Our attorneys can help you negotiate this maze of federal, state and local regulations when developing your project.
Should the need arise, our attorneys have extensive experience defending clients in toxic tort and environmental litigation matters, including federal and state civil and criminal actions, private cost recovery actions and citizen suits.
