CHARLOTTE, N.C.—In the classic 1972 film “The Godfather,” Don Vito Corleone frequently gives his rivals an “offer they can’t refuse.”  At a recent NACD Carolinas Chapter roundtable moderated by Womble Carlyle attorney Chris Gyves, three top corporate leaders discussed the “Godfather Offer” in the M&A context.

Participating in the discussion were former Piedmont Natural Gas Company Chairman and CEO Tom Skains, Wells Fargo Mergers & Acquisitions Group Managing Director Tim Wielechowski and Kitty Hawk Capital Founder and Qorvo, Inc. Lead Independent Director Walter Wilkinson.

Panelists offered perspectives on boardroom considerations in leading and negotiating transactions, managing M&A social issues, and the outlook for the 2017 M&A market.
